MTG-S1/Sentinel-4A
MTG (Meteosat Third Generation) is the follow-up system to the Meteosat MSG series of geostationary satellites.
The satellite system will consist of a twin configuration of 3-axis-stabilised satellites: the Imaging mission satellite (MTG-I) and the Sounding mission satellite (MTG-S).
The payload proposed for MTG-S would have an Infrared Sounder (IRS) and Ultra-violet Visible Near-infrared (UVN) Sounder, the later of which is included as the Sentinel-4 mission
The Sentinel-4 mission focuses on monitoring trace gas concentrations and aerosols in the atmosphere to support operational services covering air-quality near-real-time applications, air-quality protocol monitoring, and climate protocol monitoring. The specific objective of Sentinel-4 is to support this with a high revisit time over Europe.
The Sentinel-4/UVN instrument is a high-resolution spectrometer system operating with 3 designated bands in the solar reflectance spectrum, covering the ultraviolet (305-400 nm), visible (400-500 nm), and near-infrared (750-775 nm) bands. The central Sentinel-4/UVN instrument parameters are a spatial sampling of 8 km over Europe and a fast repeat cycle over Europe and North Africa (Sahara) of 60 minutes.
The respective spectral resolution is 0.5 nm in the ultraviolet and visible bands, with the goal of 0.12 nm in near-infrared.

MTG-S1 and @CopernicusEU Sentinel-4 have safely reached Cape Canaveral harbour after their boat ride. Next step? Unloading and heading to the launch site.
Once in orbit, MTG-S1 will capture data on temperature, humidity, wind and trace gases with its Infrared Sounder instrument while Sentinel-4 will track air quality over Europe.

Eumetsat's Meteosat Third Generation Sounder (MTG-S1) satellite, hosting the instrument for the Copernicus Sentinel-4 mission, was successfully deployed into geosynchronous transfer orbit approximately 35 minutes after being launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 1 July 2025, at 21:04 UTC (17:04 EDT).

1 июля 2025 г. в 21:04 UTC (2 июля в 00:04 мск) с площадки LC-39А Космического центра имени Кеннеди на мысе Канаверал (шт. Флорида, США) стартовыми командами компании SpaceX при поддержке боевых расчётов 45-го Космического крыла КС США в рамках миссии MTG-S1 выполнен пуск РН Falcon-9FT Block-5 (F9-499).
ПН – геостационарный метеоспутник MTG-S1 (Sentinel-4А) массой 3800 кг. Спутник запускается в интересах Европейской организации спутниковой метеорологии (EUMETSAT), при поддержке ESA, и будет работать как часть научной программы Copernicus.
Пуск успешный, космический аппарат выведен на околоземную орбиту.
Использовавшаяся в девятый раз 1-я ступень В1085 после выполнения полётного задания совершила посадку на платформу JRTI, находившуюся в акватории Атлантического океана.
Запуск этого аппарата был перенесён с ракеты Ariane-6 в модификации 64 на Falcon-9, из-за неготовности тяжёлой версии новой ракеты Ariane.
