China will attempt its 35th launch of 2018 early Friday with a probable Long March 2D rocket to liftoff from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the Gobi Desert.

Launch is expected around 04:10 universal time (12:10 local) following the issuing of airspace closure notices on Wednesday.

No official announcement of the launch, launch vehicle or payloads has been made, but indications suggest a Long March 2D rocket will carry the SaudiSat-5A and 5B  (https://gbtimes.com/saudi-arabia-completes-saudisat-5-remote-sensing-satellites-ahead-of-launch-from-china)remote sensing satellites into orbit for Saudi Arabia.

The launch from Jiuquan in the northwest will be followed hours later by the launch of the Chang'e-4 lunar far side mission (https://gbtimes.com/china-to-launch-change-4-lunar-far-side-landing-mission-on-december-7) from Xichang in the southwest.

The Chang'e-4 lander and rover are expected to make the first ever attempt at landing on the far side of the Moon in early January.

JIUQUAN, China, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China launched two satellites for Saudi Arabia on a Long March-2D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 12:12 p.m. Friday.

Each weighing 425 kg, the two low orbit remote sensing satellites developed by Saudi Arabia have a design life of five years. They are mainly used for achieving ground images.

The rocket also carries 10 small satellites.

The satellites have all entered the orbit.

This was the 293rd mission of the Long March rocket series.

Цзюцюань, 7 декабря /Синьхуа/ -- В пятницу в 12:12 с космодрома Цзюцюань стартовала ракета-носитель "Чанчжэн-2D" /CZ-2D/, которая успешно вывела на расчетную орбиту два спутника Саудовской Аравии, а также 10 микроспутников.

Низкоорбитальные спутники дистанционного зондирования 5A/5B, массой 425 кг каждый, были разработаны саудовскими специалистами, проектный срок службы составляет 5 лет. Их полезная нагрузка - это камера, обеспечивающая съемку панхроматических и мультиспектральных изображений высокого разрешения.

В свою очередь микроспутники были разработаны научно-исследовательскими институтами в городе Чанша /провинция Хунань, Центральный Китай/ и Пекине.

Это 293-й по счету полет китайской ракеты-носителя семейства "Чанчжэн" /"Великий поход"/.

RIYADH, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia launched two aerial survey satellites from China-based Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on Friday, Al Arabiya TV reported.

The two satellites, named Saudi SAT 5A and Saudi SAT 5B, were manufactured by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, a Saudi government scientific institution, in October.

The satellites will be used to provide high-resolution images of the earth's surface from low orbits, and help with urban planning by monitoring movements and changes on the planet, according to the local newspaper Arab News.

As part of Saudi Vision 2030, a national plan to diversify Saudi Arabia's economy, the launch of the two satellites aims to nationalize strategic technologies and empower the Saudi youth to develop advanced technologies in the field of satellite development.

Вместе с этими космическими аппаратами на орбиту одновременно было отправлено 10 микроспутников - семь из них предназначены для обслуживания технологий интернета вещей, остальные три - для тестирования новых разработок дистанционного управления.

Этот запуск - 293-й для ракет-носителей серии "Чанчжэн".

В пятницу были успешно запущены первые семь малых спутников этой компании под названием "Пяочун" /"Божья коровка"/. Они вместе с двумя спутниками Саудовской Аравии выведены на намеченную орбиту при помощи ракеты-носителя "Чанчжэн-2D" /CZ-2D/, которая стартовала с космодрома Цзюцюань.

После завершения орбитального тестирования спутники этой серии будут использованы для отработки технологий IoT, который в перспективе будет применяется в различных областях, включая охрану диких животных, организацию аварийно-спасательных операций, мониторинг транспортных средств и судов, логистическое сопровождение.

Как сообщил руководитель проекта, главный исполнительный директор компании Commsat Се Тао, один из названных спутников весит более 100 кг, а остальные имеют массу до 10 кг и относятся к наноспутникам.

Эксперты прогнозируют широкую популяризацию IoT-устройств в 2020 году. В связи с этим, многие китайские и зарубежные предприятия приступили к созданию своей сети низкоорбитальных спутников связи.

Commsat занимается исследованиям в сфере инновационного применения малых спутников и разработкой технологий системы связи и создания спутниковой группировки. Инвестором компании выступает Сианьский институт оптики и точной механики Академии наук Китая.

Two more objects from the CZ-2D launch, so that's 13 cataloged. 12 payloads; probably 4 small separation motor covers so we could get 3 more objects. CZ-2D upper stage normally is deorbited and not cataloged.

JIUQUAN, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- A series of seven small satellites expected to serve for wildlife protection, field emergency rescue, vehicle and ship monitoring and logistics tracing were launched into space at noon Friday.

A Long March-2D rocket, carrying the satellites called the "ladybeetle series," together with two satellites for Saudi Arabia and three other small ones, blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 12:12 p.m.

The series include Ladybeetle 1, weighing about 100 kg, three CubeSats composed of six cubic units (10*10*10 cm) and three composed of three cubic units.

They are manufactured by Commsat, a Beijing-based private satellite company funded by the Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

"We named them 'ladybeetles' as we hope they are down-to-earth, bring qualified services for our clients and have strong vitality," said Xie Tao, founder and CEO of Commsat.

Xie believes that Ladybeetle 1 will realize great commercial prospects due to its advantages in cost and flexibility. "A satellite at a weight of about 100 kg can accommodate more payloads than smaller minisatellites, but will consume much less power when connecting with ground terminals than big satellites weighing over a tonne."

The ladybeetle series will be used to test a closed-loop system for the Internet of Things (IOT), which includes satellites, cloud computing platforms, ground control stations and terminals, said Peng Yuanyuan, co-founder and chief operating officer of Commsat.

"We expect that IOT will mushroom in 2020, with about 20 billion terminals being connected to it. However, only 10 percent of our globe is covered by the ground network, and many things, such as ships, pipelines and wildlife, are scattered across vast areas without the network," Peng said.

The company also plans to launch another four satellites in 2019 and to complete the deployment of a constellation of 72 satellites in 2022, according to Peng.

Peng said the company's satellites will provide data to a sports watch to help monitor the clients' heart rates and temperatures while participating in outdoor sports.

A necklace for giant pandas that have been released back into the wild has been developed, which will be connected to the satellites to provide information about their locations, temperatures and calls.

The satellites can also help monitor the conditions of containers at sea.

In February, Commsat launched China's first shared education satellite, Young Pioneer 1, which shares its data resources with primary and secondary schools and other education institutions equipped with sub-stations in China and provides students with experiences like wireless communication and space photography.

"Commercial aerospace is a burgeoning industry, and we will do our best to realize our dreams," Xie said.
