State-owned company Argentina Satelital (Arsat) has announced it will launch its Arsat-1 satellite between 15 August and 15 September, Info News reports. The Arsat-1 was initially scheduled for launch from French Guyana in July. The Arsat-1 geostationary telecommunications satellite has been fully designed and manufactured in Argentina. That sensor communications space was conceived and developed at the Applied Research (Invap), a state enterprise dedicated to the design, manufacturing and integration of complex technology such as nuclear power plants, space and industrial equipment, and medical and scientific equipment centre. The satellite will provide telephone and data transmission, internet access, IP telephony, and DTH services to users across Argentina and the Southern cone.

Transported by a chartered An-124 cargo jetliner, ARSAT-1 landed yesterday at Félix Eboué International Airport near French Guiana's capital city of Cayenne. The satellite was then unloaded for transfer by road to the Spaceport's clean room facilities, wh ere it is to undergo pre-launch processing.
ARSAT-1 was produced for Argentine satellite operator ARSAT (Empresa Argentina de Soluciones Satelitales Sociedad Anonima) by the company INVAP, with Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space as leading equipment suppliers. This spacecraft will deliver a wide range of telecommunications, data transmission, telephone and television services across all of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay – operating from an orbital position of 72 deg. Payload preparations for Arianespace's next Ariane 5 flight are moving into their full pace with delivery of the mission's other passenger – ISDLA-1 – to French Guiana, wh ere it joins the ARSAT-1 satellite that arrived earlier this month.

Intelsat 30 is a 20-kilowatt class Ku-and C-band satellite. The Ku-band payload, known as DLA-1, is designed to provide distribution services for DIRECTV Latin America in South America and the Caribbean. The C-band portion enhances Intelsat's existing C-band service infrastructure serving Latin America. This is the 54th satellite launched by Arianespace for Intelsat and the sixth for DIRECTV, as well as the 45th satellite built by Space Systems/Loral (SSL) to be orbited by Arianespace. Today's launch clearly shows the relationship of mutual trust established by Arianespace, Intelsat and Space Systems/Loral over the last 31 years.
ARSAT-1 is the first in a series of three geostationary (GEO) satellites that will give Argentina its own space telecommunications system. It is the first satellite of this type to be built in Argentina, by the state-owned company Invap in its plant in Bariloche, north of Patagonia. It is also the first part of the space infrastructure being built by Arsat, for which Arianespace's experience and reliable launch solutions played a decisive role in this successful market entry.
Arianespace and Latin America
With this launch, Arianespace is sharing its expertise with two customers that have very different requirements, although both are based in the Americas. Intelsat is a global operator and world leader in fixed satellite services (FSS) that has been operating in Latin America since 1965; while Arsat is a regional operator and is starting with this first satellite.
Arianespace has launched nearly three-fourths of all commercial satellites for operators in Latin America, wh ere demand for access to space is growing.

Having launched 60% of commercial satellites now in orbit, Arianespace clearly sets the standard for all satellite manufacturers and operators. This year to date, Arianespace has orbited seven out of the 12 geostationary commercial satellites launched.

Аргентина запускает геостационарный спутник, разработанный с нуля ради сохранения участка на орбите
Первый искусственный геостационарный спутник, разработанный и прошедший испытания в Аргентине, выйдет на орбиту 16 октября (http://www.aerospace-technology.com/news/newsisdla-1-satellite-readies-for-payload-integration-ahead-of-launch-4394912). Запуск осуществит Европейское космическое агентство(ESA) с космодрома Куру во Французской Гвиане.
Разработка ARSAT-1 заняла восемь лет. Он — первый в серии из трех спутников, которые аргентинские инженеры намерены изготовить самостоятельно. Почему один геостационарный спутник имеет такое огромное значение для Аргентины? Во-первых, всего трех коммуникационных спутников мексиканской Satmex было достаточно, чтобы быть крупнейшим игроком в Западном полушарии, поставляющим услуги телевещания, передачи данных и телефонии в 37 стран. Аргентина же имеет право на два слота на этой орбите — сейчас они используются эпизодически.
Вторая причина связана с историей местной космической программы. Аргентина была первой латиноамериканской страной, создавшей собственное космическое агентство; первой отправила искусственный объект в космос при помощи собственной ракеты-носителя. В 1970-х она предоставляла свои двухступенчатые ракеты зарубежным ученым для экспериментов. Но в конце 90-х отрасль пришлось фактически создавать заново.
Проблемы начались в 1982 году после Фолклендской войны. Франция наложила на Аргентину оружейное эмбарго, оставив без поставок ракет. Гражданскую ракету Condorспешно пришлось переоборудовать в баллистическую средней дальности в сотрудничестве с Египтом и Ираком. Все разработки перешли под начало Министерства обороны. В 1993 году под давлением США программа Condor была закрыта вместе со многими заводами и лабораториями. На некоторое время страна осталась без космической программы.

В 90-х и «нулевых» Аргентина занялась разработкой собственных спутников, а на орбиту их доставляли NASA и ESA. Плодами этого сотрудничества стала серия космических аппаратов SAC — наблюдательных спутников на низкой околоземной орбите.
Распределением участков на геостационарной орбите заведует Международный союз электросвязи. За Аргентиной числятся два слота: 72 градуса и 81 градус западной долготы. Если они не используются на протяжении длительного времени, лицензия отзывается. Так что в середине 90-х перед правительством страны встала проблема их заполнения.
Из-за радиационного фона и некоторых других параметров геостационарная орбита выдвигает несколько более высокие требования к конструкции космических аппаратов, чем низкая околоземная. На тот момент Аргентина не могла позволить себе самостоятельную разработку подходящего спутника и договорилась с немецкой компанией Daimler Benz-Aerospace, французской Aerospatiale и итальянской Alenia Spazio о создании в стране совместного дочернего предприятия — Nahuel Sat.
Европейцы построили в Аргентине станцию управления, но аргентинцы в основном арендовали чужие старые спутники, чтобы заполнять орбитальные слоты хоть чем-нибудь. В 2007 году предприятие перешло к госкомпании ARSAT. Срок годности последнего спутника истекал, и поначалу правительство вновь попыталось заказать новый у сторонних подрядчиков — на этот раз в Китае, — но в итоге решило не портить отношения с NASA, помогающим со строительством наблюдательного космического аппарата SAC-D.
Вместо этого власти Аргентины затеяли «стройку века». Вокруг ARSAT была создана группа компаний Argentina Conectada, расконсервированы военные лаборатории, закрытые вместе с программой Condor. В считаные годы страну опутала оптоволоконная сеть общей протяженностью 30 тысяч километров, запущены сервисы цифрового эфирного телевидения и сотовой связи стандарта 4G. Для тестирования будущих спутников был построен специальный цех.
ARSAT-1 полностью разработан аргентинскими учеными. Хотя большая часть компонентов импортируется, местные инженеры отвечают за их интеграцию, сборку и отладку. Желая максимально локализовать производство, правительство Аргентины даже заказало разработку всего программного обеспечения местным компаниям.
Аргентина понесла немалые расходы, пытаясь вернуться в космическую отрасль. Во-вторых, поскольку страна не может позволить себе потерять этот аппарат, ARSAT-1 оборудован автоматической системой ориентации в пространстве при помощи сенсоров звезд, Солнца и инфракрасного излучения Земли. Даже в случае утраты связи и каких-либо отклонений в параметрах миссии он, в теории, сможет самостоятельно выйти на заданную орбиту, повернуть солнечные панели к Солнцу, а антенны — к Земле.

The Arsat-1 geostationary satellite launched last week finished the third and last manoeuvre in order to remain in orbit permanently, 36,000 km away from earth.
INVAP and state-run Arsat high-tech Company affirmed this afternoon from Benavidez land station that the device is set in safe mode and reoriented facing the sun until further procedures.
This third manoeuvre, which concluded last night, included technical checks of the satellite's temperature control, motor and tank pressure; the last step before beginning with the transmission service.
The Arsat-1 is the country's first geostationary satellite built entirely with local parts, that will provide telecommunication services for a vast range of territory in South America.
